The Emeryville Artists’ Cooperative is a 501(c)(3) Limited Equity Housing Cooperative providing affordable artist studios in the Bay Area since 1973.
What We Do
The Emeryville Artists’ Cooperative is a 501(c)(3) Limited Equity Housing Cooperative, the last of its kind registered in California. Founded in 1973 by artists seeking affordable studios customized to their disciplines, we are now home to 100+ artists across 58 studios in three former industrial spaces in the heart of Emeryville.
Our model is simple: we are governed by our artist-members; we keep housing as affordable as possible.
Our members—painters, sculptors, photographers, choreographers, composers, writers and multidisciplinary artists—work at the highest professional levels, with exhibitions and performances in premier galleries and museums nationally and internationally.
None of this would be possible without stable, affordable housing that allows members to invest decades in their craft, freed from worry about lease terms, change of ownership, and market fluctuations.
